If you live in NYC and haven’t been to Fishs Eddy on 19th & Broadway, get on it! If a garage sale, thrift shop, and museum had a baby, it would be called Fishs Eddy. Here is a sampling of some of the stuff we love, which is all very reasonably priced: New York Skyline dinnerware collection, Admit One Tray, Artist Palette Cheese Tray (available with matching coasters), and Carnival Coasters.
We thought we’d start today off with some silliness and fun. These adorable cards from The Curiosity Shoppe make us smile and hopefully they’ll do the same for you. Honestly, who doesn’t want to get a Thank You card with a Tomato on it? From the left: Dried Goods Notecard Set, Tomato Thank You Card, Perforated Ice Pop Notecards, Thank You Umbrella Card, and the Prize Ribbon Card.
We hope you all had an amazing holiday season! We thought we’d kick off the new year with some love for our fellow type geeks. In all likelihood, if you are a type geek you’ve seen these fun items from House Industries already, but in case you haven’t here you go. From the left: Large Ampersand Pillow, PLINC Elephant S Plywood Print, Cast Iron Ampersand, and the Large Neutraface Slab Tote which is unfortunately out of stock. Enjoy!
It’s been a while since we’ve blogged. Mostly this is because it’s been pretty busy around here with the holidays fast-approaching, but it’s also because we haven’t seen much lately that’s wowed us. That is until we found this on The Dieline today. The description of these Space Invaders-themed juice drinks designed by New Moment says that they “target younger consumers.” While we’re not sure whether it’ll be kids that love these, or graphic designers and brooklyn hipsters, either way we love ‘em! T-minus 13 Days Until Hanukkah!
Since Hanukkah is right around the corner, between now and December 1st we’re going to share some truly gorgeous menorahs. We think they’ll add some visual splendor to this not-so-high-holy, but still totally awesome holiday. This pewter menorah, designed by Richard Meier for the Jewish Museum, is an abstract architectural representation of significant moments of hardship during Jewish history. It’s not exactly affordable at $1,000, but if you want to splurge you can BUY IT HERE »
Israeli-born Hadas Merimah-Yin carves these gorgeous necklaces and rings from imported sea shells for her company MyShell. Yes folks, she sits there and hand-carves each and every piece. Now that’s dedication! We think these make the perfect holiday gift. GET THEM HERE »
We love this typographic map of the world designed by Dirk Schächter from Germany. CLICK HERE to view it larger, buy the poster, or download a free wallpaper.
Seeing this poster by Scott Boms, Grant Hutchinson and Luke Dorny for Ligature, Loop & Stem almost brought tears to our eyes. It brought back all of our fondest memories from design school. Only 100 of these stunning letterpressed pieces were created and, unfortunately for all of us, they’re sold out. How much begging would it take for them to do another run? Hmmmm…

Throwback Thursday: Kandinsky
This 1923 piece by Russian painter Wassily Kandinsky, entitled ‘Composition VIII’, is the perfect way to kick off Throwback Thursdays. This piece represents the point in Kandinsky’s career where he took a giant leap from painting to design. His asymmetrical use of the space, geometric composition, and thoughtful use of color to guide the viewer’s eye is quite remarkable. SEE MORE KANDINSKY »
